How it all began

What makes me so effective is my enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, and how I've grown over the years. My journey to entrepreneurship is not a typical programming story. It didn't start with a computer screen... but with a hammer.

In 2005, I enrolled in preparatory secondary vocational education and chose to specialize in carpentry. I was definitely planning on becoming a carpenter. But I progressed and was able to attend secondary vocational education, where I chose to study construction engineering.

During my engineering studies, I was exposed to various CAD software, work preparation, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodologies during several internships. In 2013, the construction sector was still in recession, and continuing my studies at a higher vocational college seemed the obvious choice. During an open day at Saxion University of Applied Sciences in Enschede, I became enthusiastic about the Construction Engineering Business Administration program.

The entrepreneurship started in 2015, through a study assignment at WEBO in Rijssen. I was researching the question: Can you control production directly from a 3D BIM model in Autodesk Revit? To share my progress, I posted a short update on LinkedIn every week. What happened next was unexpected: Companies started contacting me with questions about their own processes, asking if I could help them manage everything from design to production.

I saw how companies struggled with complex CAD systems and workflows. I was already familiar with SketchUp, and the more I explored it, the more enthusiastic I became. It was fast, intuitive, and had so much potential. So I decided: This would be my digital tool. I studied during the day, worked as a BIM modeler on weekends, and taught myself programming in the evenings.

I graduated in 2017, and since then I've been working full-time on ITCAD. What started with 3D BIM modeling has grown into a company focused on developing custom SketchUp extensions and smart automation. To develop SketchUp extensions, I had to learn Ruby programming, and in 2018 I graduated from the programming course. I developed my very first extension for my custom SketchUp workflow.

2024 was a very special year for me because I stopped being a SketchUp reseller that year, allowing me to fully focus on developing custom SketchUp extensions/plugins. That year, I was a finalist for the Prefab Eficiency Award with a SketchUp extension I developed called SKELET.

My passion for SketchUp

I'm a huge fan of SketchUp. Not only because it's a powerful and intuitive 3D drawing program, but especially because you can do so much more with it than most people realize. While others see it as a "simple drawing tool for hobbyists," I see it as a professional platform for 3D modeling and automation.

That passion has brought me to where I am today, both nationally and internationally. I'm a proud member of the Extensioneers Guild, a select group of developers who work professionally worldwide on advanced extensions and continuously push the boundaries of what's possible with SketchUp.

I also enjoy attending SketchUp-related events and conferences to stay up-to-date on the latest developments. I've also given several presentations and workshops there, sharing my insights and knowledge with fellow developers and SketchUp users.

What's in it for you?
You'll be working with someone at the forefront of what's technically and practically possible with SketchUp. I'll bring that knowledge directly to your workplace.

What you can expect

You're not just hiring a Ruby (on Rails) programmer and BIM modeler. You're also hiring an enthusiastic, determined problem-solver. My role as a volunteer firefighter has also trained me to stay calm in chaotic situations, figure out what's going on, and take effective action to resolve the issue.

Isn't that exactly the person you're looking for to solve your SketchUp workflow problem?

Outside of work, I'm someone who enjoys being active. In my free time, you'll often find me outdoors. I enjoy adventure on my all-road motorcycle. I enjoy hiking, especially in the woods, mountains, and along the water. It's that combination of physical exertion and nature that keeps me sharp and sparks new ideas.
